Children’s Examinations

Vision develops from birth, and is directly related to the development of the child. Sometimes factors interfere, which may result in changes to vision which may affect the child’s development and learning. Eye movement, eye teaming and focusing and visual processing are all important factors to consider, not just clarity of sight.

Regular examinations at Optimeyes are recommended to ensure that the child’s vision is working well. We use age-appropriate techniques to assess vision in different age groups – babies, toddlers, and young children. For more information or to make an appointment, consider booking an eye test Northern Beaches.

We recommend assessments at 6 months of age, 3 years old, prior to starting school, and then every 1-2 years based on need there-after. If you suspect the possibility of any visual difficulties, including an eye-turn, immediate assessment is required, regardless of the recommended ages for examination.

We’ve created a checklist that identifies many of the clues & symptoms that are often observed in a child with a vision problem. Together with a comprehensive eye exam, we can assure that your child’s visual function is efficient.

Adult Examinations

As we mature we are less able to focus well and need the support of glasses to assist with our vision. At your assessment, we will review all your visual needs & concerns. Part of the assessment will include the ocular health assessment. This may require dilating your pupils. We also assess and record your eye health using an OCT- Optical Coherence Topographer, Fundus photography, pressure with tonometry, and may at times also do a visual field or measure the corneal structure. Conditions such as Glaucoma and Macular Degeneration can be managed well if any changes in eye health are detected early. Regular assessments are important to ensure that your eye health is optimal. Even once you have had cataract surgery, Clear lens extraction or LASIK surgery, you still need to maintain regular check-ups every two years. After age 65, yearly checkups are advised.

We look forward to seeing you for your next review. Call 02 9982 1039 to schedule an appointment.
